Masters of Wine Students Educational Seminar in Bordeaux. Day 1.

View from plane. The Garonne river(left) meets the Dordogne(right), after which the two rivers become the Gironde estuary, which after approximately 60 miles (97 km) joins the Atlantic Ocean.

It has been 16 months since I was in Bordeaux last. Last night I made reservations for Janine, Melissa, Jeremy and I at the popular Chez Joel D., famous for their Arcachon Bay oysters with grilled Bordeaux sausage. Drank a decent Pessac-Leognan but preferred the Chateau de Sancerre wine. I opted out the acclaimed La Tupina, a well-noted wine trade hangout that I’ve previously visited; I’m concerned that the food will be heavy this week.
Our guide this week is Dewey Markham, author of the book on the 1855 classification.

The day was light, with only two visits in Margaux. Very informative and detailed visits.
